Events & Screenings

27 May 08

The Academy's extensive programme of screenings and events throughout the UK provides moments of inspiration for our members, our industries and the public.

The Princess Anne Theatre at 195 Piccadilly

Through a popular and varied events programme which covers all aspects of film, television and new media, we give our audiences the chance to learn first hand from film and programme-makers, as well as games developers across a range of crafts and disciplines.

Events

The Academy holds approximately four events per month, ranging from major industry debates to pre-release screenings of film and TV productions, followed by discussions with cast and crew members. In addition, we hold a series of practical workshops, debates, networking events and workshops for children.

Our events provide a high profile and independent platform for debate, and are open to members and non-members of BAFTA. We celebrate excellence across television, film and games and our events truly reflect this.

Annually, we hold the David Lean Lecture , last presented in October 2007 by esteemed Director David Lynch , and given in the past by such film luminaries as Oliver Stone, Ken Loach, John Boorman, Robert Altman and Sydney Pollack.

The Annual Lecture, focusing on a leading figure in British television, was last given by Colin Callender in October 2006. Past lecturers have included Paul Abbott, Lorrainne Heggessey, Kevin Lygo and Alan Yentob.

Tributes

Our Tribute evenings are special events held to mark outstanding achievement and creative excellence. We hold several Tributes a year, both in-house and broadcast. They are a celebration of the subject's career, and feature insights from their past/present collaborators and, where possible, an interview with the subject themselves. Each subject is presented with a Silver BAFTA Mask: the Special Award.

Recent Tributes include Bryan Forbes , Lord Brabourne CBE, Nick Broomfield, Victoria Wood, Ossie Morris CBE, Bruce Forsyth, Spike Lee, Ronnie Barker and Julie Walters.
