Children's Eligibility & Judging

The next EA British Academy Children's Awards will take place on Sunday 30 November 2008.
The rules below relate to the 2008 Awards. Please note that entries are now closed. For further information, please contact Lisa Prime, on 020 7292 5820 or lisap@bafta.org .
ELIGIBILITY
- Programmes must have had their original transmission in the UK between 1 July 2007 and 30 June 2008.
- Web-based entries must have been available online between 1 July 2007 and 30 June 2008.
- Feature films must have had their original release in the UK between 1 August 2007 and 31 July 2008.
- Video games are eligible so long as they have been, or will be, released between 1 September 2007 and 31 December 2008. This means that both completed/published games can be entered as well as currently uncompleted games so long as they will be released by 31 December 2008 and ready for BAFTA to send to jury members to play and scrutinise by 12 September 2008. Any game not ready for judging will be eligible for the following year's Awards. No game that has previously been entered for a BAFTA can be re-entered.
- Individuals may enter themselves into the following categories: Break-through Talent, Presenter and Writer.
- Editorial initiative and control must reside with the UK producer, broadcaster or developer in all cases except in the categories of International Children's Programme and Children's Feature Film.
- Entries must be received no later than 18:00 on Wednesday 16 July 2008. Entries received after the closing date will not be eligible.
- The entry fee is £90 + VAT.
VOTING PROCEDURE
- The relevant voting constituency of the Academy casts its votes for all those programmes entered according to the aforementioned criteria.
- Those programmes which have attracted the most votes from the Academy membership are then put up for further scrutiny by category juries, specially selected by the Academy's Children's Committee.
- Each jury aims to be balanced in age, sex, experience, ethnicity and in broadcasting allegiances, with a track record of achievement in the genre and with no direct association with a short-listed programme, feature film, website or video game.
- These juries decide upon the four nominations and the winner of the Awards.
AWARDS IN THE GIFT OF COUNCIL
- Suggested recipients of the gift of council Special Award for outstanding contribution are put forward by the Academy's Children's Committee for consideration by the Academy's Council.
- There are no nominations for these awards, nor are they voted for by the Academy membership. The Gift of Council award is presented at the discretion of the Academy.
THE BAFTA KIDS' VOTE
- The BAFTA Kids' Vote empowers children to have their say, and this year, will embrace film, TV programmes, video games and websites. A specially-selected panel of experts will provide a shortlist of the top box-office performing U/PG/12/12A family-oriented films on release from 1 August 2007 to 31 July 2008, the top-rated children's programmes, the best-selling children's video games and the most visited children's websites, and children aged 14 and under will be eligible to vote.
